Chuck Berry (CD1, Tk8)
Johnny B. Goode (1958)

The sound of the electric guitar was slowly becoming a dominant voice in rock and roll. This guitar introduction is undoubtedly the most copied lick imitated by guitarists in the late 1950s and is still memorized by young guitarists today. Perhaps the opening to Stairway to Heaven is the only guitar lick imitated so often. The electric guitar dominates this performance with solos and fills around the vocal part. The emergence of overdriven guitar (distortion) is just around the corner.
